Advanced Flight Systems (AFS) Releases AF-Pilot Autopilot Control Software for AF-5000 Series EFIS Units. Rob Hickman, president of AFS, shot some video of the software in action on the way home from Idaho a few days ago.

“We have just released the software for the AF-5000 series to fully control the AF-Pilot autopilot. The EFIS will now display the current AP status and need for trim. The EFIS also gives you the ability to not only turn on the Autopilot but also turn it off, all from the EFIS. The new geo-referenced IFR charts and Flight Guide airport diagrams are awesome; I can’t imagine not having them.”

On October 27 2011, GlaStar HB-YNE was launched on its maiden flight in Mollis, Switzerland. Captain Christian Stüssi was at the controls of his GlaStar after eleven years of construction.

In August VH JWI a two week to taxi built aircraft took to the skies in Western Australia. After flying off the 25 hours as mandated by CASA. We took VH JWI to the Pilbara region of Western Australia. A total flying time of ten hours at a TAS of 145 knots this is a true cross-country aircraft. We flew to Auski Roadhouse which is 200 kilometres north from the nearest town of Newman . We landed on a airstrip that was pretty rough. We then went south to Perth for a flight test so I can fly this beautiful aircraft into Langley Park which is in the centre of Perth on the 15th and 16th of October. — Jim Williams

Ian Orrman, Sportsman 2+2 builder and our representative in Australia, recently attended the annual SAAA (Sport Aircraft Association of Australia) Fly In in Perth.

Eight out of the approximately 100 aircraft that were invited to attend were Glasair Aviation aircraft.

Today’s Fun Hauling a Load to the Cabin

I took the Glastar down to the Kustatan (Alaska) cabin today with about 500 pounds of materials. The Star did very well using under 400′ to get in and the same getting out. This is a one way 600′ strip I have only been taking the Cub into and now with the cooler temperatures will start working the Glastar in there as it makes for a shorter flight and can haul more stuff.

This will probably be the last opportunity to land at Langley Park and participate in an aviation festival right in the heart of Perth.
It will be the event of a lifetime.

Fly up the Swan River in an air space specifically-approved just for this event. Take in the spectacular aerial view of the Perth CBD.
Then land on the Esplanade and participate in a special aviation exhibition.

Introduce the general public to the world of ABE/ABAA aircraft.
If your pride and joy will not fit into Langley Park, participate in organized fly-bys to show the public what our planes look like in their natural habitat.

Everett Mellish and “Splash” hard at play this summer

Splash refused to work for a living this summer and has retired to cool mountain lakes instead. Lake Wallawa, OR….over the hill from Baker City, OR. Boy the German Pancakes were delicious for breakfast this morning.
